A polyhedron (plural polyhedra or polyhedrons) is often defined as a geometric solid with flat faces and straight edges (the word polyhedron comes from the Classical Greek πολϝεδϝον, from poly-, stem of πολϝς, "many," + -edron, form of εδϝον, "base", "seat", or "face").. This definition of a polyhedron is not very precise, and to a modern mathematician is quite hedron (Regular polyhedron): dodecahedron, (Regular star). A polyhedron is a solid with flat faces. (from Greek poly- meaning "many" and -hedron meaning "face"). Each face is a polygon (a flat shape with straight sides). Examples of Polyhedra: Its faces are all squares. Triangular Prism. Its faces are triangles. What faces does it have? So no curved surfaces: cones, spheres and cylinders are not.

Polyhedra have cropped up in many different guises throughout recorded history. In modern times, polyhedra and their symmetries have been cast in a new light by combinatorics an d group theory.

This book comprehensively documents the many and varied ways that polyhedra have come to the fore throughout the development of mathematics. The author strikes a balance between covering the 3/5(1). About this Item: Betascript Publishers DezTaschenbuch.

Models of the regular and semi-regular polyhedral solids have fascinated people for centuries. The Greeks knew the simplest of them. Since then the range of figures has grown; 75 are known today and are called, more generally, 'uniform' polyhedra.

The author describes simply and carefully how to make models of all the known uniform polyhedra and some of the stellated forms/5(3).ordinarily not exceed two pages (per book) typed double spaced Manuscripts of reviews as well as books submittedfor review should be sent to: Book Review Editor, American Mathematical Monthly, St.
